On a beautiful Monday night at Dodger Stadium, in the ten innings, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Miami Marlins 7-to-6. Dustin May pitched well through the fifth but ran out of gas in the sixth. Anthony Banda gave up a grand slam. The whole Dodger offense contributed to the final score.
Dustin May was perfect, including two strikeouts, in the first inning.
To open the first, Shohei Ohtani singled and stole second base. Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly moved Ohtani to third. Freddie Freeman singled in Ohtani.
With two outs in the second, May allowed two singles but escaped the jam scorelessly.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the second.
In the third, May faced the minimum.
Max Muncy singled to open the third and moved to second on Miguel Rojas’ single. Ohtani walked to load the bases. Betts singled in Muncy. The Dodgers didn’t score any more runs.
May walked a batter to open the fourth inning but convinced the hitter to ground into a double play. He faced the minimum.
With an out in the fourth, Andy Pages singled, stole second, and went to third on Muncy’s ground out. Rojas doubled in Pages. Ohtani walked. The Dodgers didn’t score any more runs.
With an out in the fifth, May allowed a single, and the runner went to second on Teoscar Hernández’s error. He walked a batter. Thanks to a double play, May escaped from the fifth scorelessly.
Freeman began the fifth with a walk. Teoscar Hernández socked a two-run homer. Will Smith singled but was left.
May gave up a lead-off single in the sixth and issued a walk. He allowed a run-scoring single.
With an out in the sixth, Dave Roberts lifted May for Anthony Banda. Banda issued a walk to load the bases. Banda allowed a game-tying grand slam. He allowed nothing else.
Rojas bunted for a single to start the sixth. Ohtani walked, but the Dodgers didn’t score.
Banda hurled a perfect seventh inning.
Smith walked with an out in the seventh and stole second. Michael Conforto’s groundout advanced Smith to third, and Smith stayed there.
Evan Phillips relieved Banda in the eighth with a perfect frame.
Muncy singled to begin the eighth. Chris Taylor ran for Muncy. Tommy Edman was hitting for Rojas and lined out. Ohtani struck out. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Tanner Scott relieved Phillips in the ninth and allowed a single to open the inning, but he faced the minimum.
Freeman began the ninth with a walk and was left with three following hitters striking out.
Kirby Yates relieved Scott in the tenth and gave up a run-scoring triple.
Pages walked to begin the tenth, and Kiké Hernández sacrificed the runners into scoring position. Tommy Edman singled in the winning runs.
