For the first time since 2013 when Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched a complete game as a rookie, Gavin Stone pitched a complete game as a rookie. Stone breezed through the game and allowed 4 baserunners. Shohei Ohtani blasted a lead off home run, and Freddie Freeman doubled in two runs. On a beautiful Wednesday night in Chicago, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished the sweep of the Chicago White Sox 4-to-0.
Shohei Ohtani blasted his twenty-fifth home run.
Gavin Stone was perfect in the first inning.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the second inning.
In the second, despite having a double, Stone was dominating.
Kiké Hernández singled to open the third and moved to second on Austin Barnes’ single. Ohtani walked to load the bases. Hernández’s sac fly drove in Hernández. Freddie Freeman’s double scored Barnes and Ohtani.
Stone was great in the fourth.
Despite allowing a single, Stone was brilliant in the fifth.
Stone hurled a scoreless sixth.
To lead off the seventh, Miguel Rojas had a bunt single. He didn’t leave first.
In the seventh, Stone breezed through the inning.
In the eighth, with two outs in the eighth, Andy Pages walked but didn’t score.
Stone retired the White Sox in order in the eighth.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the ninth inning.
Stone was sent out to finish the game. He allowed a single to Tommy Pham, but Stone pitched a complete game
