On a windy Wednesday afternoon at Camelback Ranch, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished their Cactus League schedule with an 8-to-1 loss over the Seattle Mariners.

Before the game, the Dodgers scratched Will Smith because of back tightness. Tomorrow, he boards the plane for a fourteen-hour flight to South Korea. The flight won’t help Smith’s back. Since he is a crucial part of the team, the Dodgers hope Smith will be fine.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto started the game by striking out the side. To begin the second inning, the right-hander struck out the first batter. He had fantastic control. In the third, Yamamoto allowed a single but ended the inning with seven pitches.  To open the fourth, Yamamoto allowed three singles to load the bases, and on another single, the Mariners scored two runs. However, after a visit from Mark Prior, Yamamoto settled down and retired the next three batters. In the fifth, Yamamoto allowed two singles in the fifth and a wild pitch and a two-run double. After 73 pitches, Dave Roberts took out Yamamoto with two outs in the fifth.

Shohei Ohtani almost homered, but a fabulous catch by Seattle’s right fielder. Freddie Freeman singled and went to third on Chris Taylor’s double, but Jason Heyward flied out.

James Outman opened the second with a double but was stranded.

Mookie Betts doubled to open the third and was picked off at second.

Outman singled in the fourth and scored on Austin Barnes’ double.

Dinelson Lamet retired the last out in the fifth and continued pitching in the sixth. He walked and allowed a run.

Today, Blake Treinen threw about fifteen pitches in a bullpen session and felt good after getting a bruised lung. He will be ready for South Korea
