Despite Shohei Ohtani dislocating his left shoulder, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a fabulous game to take two-game lead in the World Series. Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave the Dodgers exactly what they needed. Teoscar Hernández had a two-run homer, and Tommy Edman and Freddie Freeman blasted solo home runs. The Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 4-to-2 on a beautiful Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
Before the World Series began, the pundits thought the team who had starters who could last longer would win the World Series. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a rookie, was brilliant for 6.1 innings. He allowed only one hit, a home run to Juan Soto. The pundits thought the Yankees would have the advantage in the World Series, but so far, the Dodgers’ starters have been much better than the Yankees.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto walked the lead-off batter. On a ground-out, the runner advanced to second. Yamamoto struck out Aaron Judge. The Yankees didn’t score.
With one out in first, Mookie Betts singled. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Yamamoto walked Anthony Rizzo with an out in the second. Yamamoto stranded Rizzo. He was in command.
To open the second, Tommy Edman homered. The Dodgers didn’t do anything else.
Yamamoto allowed a solo home run to Juan Soto with two outs in the third. He didn’t allow anything else.
With two outs in the third, Mookie Betts singled, and Teoscar Hernández slugged a two-run homer. Freddie Freeman blasted a solo home run. Edman doubled. Edman advanced to third but didn’t score.
Yamamoto was perfect in the fourth.
In the fourth with an out, Will Smith doubled. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Yamamoto again was perfect in the fifth.
Teoscar Hernández singled in the fifth with an out. The Dodgers didn’t do anything else.
Yamamoto was perfect in the sixth, even facing Soto and Judge.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.
Yamamoto continued pitching in the seventh and retired Giancarlo Stanton.
Anthony Banda relieved Yamamoto with an out in the seventh. With two outs, Banda plunked Rizzo. He retired the last batter of the seventh.
Shohei Ohtani walked with an out in the seventh. Ohtani was caught stealing, but he was hurt.
Michael Kopech relieved Banda in the eighth. He was perfect.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the eighth.
Soto singled to start the ninth against Blake Treinen. Stanton had a bloop single scoring Soto. Jazz Chisholm singled. Treinen plunked a batter to load the bases. Treinen struck out a batter for the second out.
Alex Vesia relieved Treine, who threw thirty pitches, with two outs in the ninth. Vesia got the last out on one pitch.
