Tyler Glasnow was the biggest offseason Dodger acquisition next to Shohei Ohtani. Despite having a history of arm injuries, the Dodgers expected Glasnow to be their ace, including in the postseason.
Well, it didn’t happen.
Glasnow pitched his last game in the 2024 regular season on August 11th because of an elbow injury. In July around the All-Star break, Glasnow went on the IL with a back problem.
Before that, Glasnow was the best. His combination of an upper 90s-miles-per-hour fastball and a rainbow curveball is almost unhittable. This was what lured the Dodgers to trade for Glasnow from the Tampa Bay Rays and sign him to a lucrative contract extension.
Glasnow established a career-high in innings with 134. He started 22 games. He had 9 wins, 6 losses, a 3.49 ERA, and 168 strikeouts.
The drama surrounding Glasnow’s elbow injury could have made him available. The Dodgers don’t like media drama surrounding any player. They understood the gambling scandal involving Ohtani wasn’t Ohtani’s fault or knowledge.
Glasnow was different. When he wanted to pitch in Saint Louis and the Dodgers said no, this doesn’t happen in Los Angeles. When Glasnow learned he couldn’t pitch in the postseason, he left the team. This does not fly with the Dodgers.
According to him on Foul Territory, Glasnow is now healthy. Since he is a great starting pitcher, the Dodgers should be able to obtain something that they need in the 2025 season and beyond. While the Dodgers need starting pitching, they don’t need Glasnow, who is fragile and has a humongous ego.
