Clayton Kershaw is preparing for his eighteenth season in a Dodger uniform, tying Bill Russell. He is a future Hall of Famer.

Through his Dodger career, Kershaw has been the most talented starter, and he usually performs well during the regular season. At 37, Kershaw is needed in the starting rotation.

Yes, Kershaw has had injuries, mainly his back, but never had a Tommy John surgery. Now, the Dodgers must have a fifth starter, with Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, and Roki Sasaki on the IL. Kershaw, coming off knee and toe surgeries, is expected to have good starts and not brilliant.

Kershaw needs to have 32 more strikeouts to become the twentieth pitcher to have 3,000 strikeouts. If healthy, Kershaw should be able to get this milestone in August or earlier. Kershaw wants another World Championship before he retires.

Since 1977, I have been an avid Dodger fan. In high school, I became my school's baseball statistician and vowed to have a career in baseball. After I graduated from Pasadena City College, I started writing about my favorite team. In August 2001, I was featured in Her Blue Haven by Bill Plaschke.
