On an overcast Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals 2-to-1. Yoshinobu Yamamoto was brilliant for six innings, but he received no offensive support. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on a scoring opportunity.
With rain in the forecast, the Dodgers and the Cardinals began the game.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single with one out in the first and issued a walk. A force play sent the runner to third. The Cardinals ran themselves out of the inning.
With an out in the second, Max Muncy walked and stole second while Andy Pages struck out. The Dodgers didn’t score.
With two outs in the second, Yamamoto allowed two singles. He plunked a batter to load the bases. He escaped from the jam scorelessly.
Shohei Ohtani walked with two outs in the third, and Mookie Betts singled Ohtani to third. Freddie Freeman walked to load the bases. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Yamamoto was perfect in the third.
Muncy started the fourth inning with a single but was left.
Yamamoto was perfect in the fourth.
Hyeseong Kim singled to begin the fifth and stole second. On a ground ball, Kim took third. The Dodgers wasted a scoring opportunity.
To start the fifth, Yamamoto issued a walk and allowed a single. He finished the inning scorelessly.
Will Smith walked to begin the sixth, and Muncy singled Smith to second. The Dodgers wasted the scoring opportunity.
Yamamoto was perfect in the sixth.
Kim had an infield single to start the seventh Betts had an infield single. The Dodgers wasted another scoring opportunity.
Alex Vesia relieved Yamamoto in the seventh with a perfect inning.
With an out in the eighth, Muncy walked, and Kiké Hernández singled. The Dodgers wasted another scoring opportunity.
Ben Casparius relieved Vesia in the eighth. He allowed a single with one out. Another single moved the runner to second. An infield single scored a run.
Ohtani had an infield single with an out in the ninth, Betts singled Ohtani to third. Ohtani scored on a wild pitch while Freddie Freeman struck out. The Dodgers couldn’t do any more.
Casparius continued pitching in the ninth and allowed a lead-off double. He threw highly on a sacrifice attempt to allow the runner to reach. A double scored the winning run.
