Going in Game 3, the Dodgers wondered how Walker Buehler would perform. Buehler was great for four innings, and the Dodger bullpen continued its dominance. The Dodgers played small ball in the second inning to score two runs. Kiké Hernández had a crucial two-run homer in the fifth. Shohei Ohtani blasted a three-run homer in the eighth to break a slump. Max Muncy had a perfect night offensively, including a solo home run. The Los Angeles Dodgers walloped the New York Mets 8-to-0, to take a 2-1 game lead in the NLCS.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first, including two strikeouts.
With two outs, Walker Buehler allowed an infield single but didn’t allow anything else and had two strikeouts.
Max Muncy opened the second inning with a walk. Teoscar Hernández had an infield single moving Muncy to second thanks to the sloppy Mets’ defense. Gavin Lux’s come backer moved both Muncy and Hernández into scoring position. Will Smith drove in Muncy with an infield single. Tommy Edman had a sacrifice fly scoring Hernández.
With an out in the second, Buehler issued a walk and an infield single. Another walk loaded the bases for the Mets. Buehler got out of the jam scorelessly. He looked great.
Shohei Ohtani started the third with a walk. Mookie Betts walked. Muncy’s single loaded the bases. The Dodgers didn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Buehler allowed a single to open the third, and with two outs, he plunked a batter. He stranded the runners.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.
Buehler was perfect in the fourth.
With two outs in the fifth, Freddie Freeman singled, and Muncy walked. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Michael Kopech relieved Buehler in the fifth and was perfect.
With two outs in the sixth, Tommy Edman singled and moved to second on a balk. Kiké Hernández socked a two-run homer.
Ryan Brasier relieved Kopech in the sixth. With an out, he allowed a single and issued a walk. Brasier benefited from a double play started by Muncy.
Betts singled to begin the seventh, and with an out, Muncy walked. Teoscar Hernández’s ground out advanced the runners in scoring position. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Blake Treinen relieved Brasier in the seventh with a perfect inning.
Will Smith walked to open the eighth, and Kiké Hernández singled to move Smith to second. Shohei Ohtani hammered a three-run homer.
Ben Casparius relieved Treinen in the eighth. He issued a walk with an out. He got out of the inning scorelessly.
Muncy blasted a solo home run to begin the ninth. Chris Taylor walked. Smith singled Taylor to second. Edman hit into a force play erasing Smith.
Casparius continued pitching in the ninth.
