The New York Yankees’ sloppiness gave the Los Angeles Dodgers their eighth world championship. The Dodgers came back from a five-run deficit to win. They played small ball. Jack Flaherty wasn’t good, but the bullpen and Walker Buehler picked him up. The Dodgers defeated the Yankees 7-to-6.
Gerrit Cole was pitching the most important game of his career. The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first.
All the hopes and dreams of Los Angeles was on Jack Flaherty’s shoulders. The Dodgers hadn’t won a full-season world championship since 1988. Many Dodger fans have never witnessed a full-season world championship.
Flaherty walked Juan Soto with an out. Aaron Judge blasted a two-run homer. Jazz Chisholm blasted a solo home run. Flaherty finally escaped from the first inning.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the second. Cole looked great, and the Dodgers couldn’t build his pitch count so far.
Flaherty continued pitching in the second. Anthony Volpe doubled to start the inning. Alex Verdugo singled in Volpe.
Anthony Banda relieved Flaherty with an out in the second. Verdugo stole second. Soto walked, and on a wild pitch, Verdugo went to third. Judge walked to load the bases, but Banda received a ground out to escape from the inning.
With two outs in the third, Gavin Lux walked but was stranded.
Ryan Brasier relieved Banda and promptly allowed a solo home run to Giancarlo Stanton. Brasier didn’t allow anything else in the third.
Mookie Betts walked to open the fourth. Aaron Judge made a fantastic defensive play to retire Freddie Freeman. Teoscar Hernández’s grounder advanced Betts to second. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Michael Kopech relieved Brasier in the fourth. Verdugo walked to start the inning. Soto singled moving Kopech to second. Kopech pitched the first scoreless inning for the Dodgers.
Kiké Hernández singled to begin the fifth. Judge dropped the fly ball allowing Tommy Edman to reach and move Kiké Hernández to second. Will Smith reached on a failed force play to load the bases. Lux struck out. Shohei Ohtani struck out. Betts had an infield single scoring Kiké Hernández. Freeman singled in two runs. Teoscar Hernández doubled in two runs to tie the game. Max Muncy walked.
Alex Vesia relieved Kopech in the fifth. Volpe singled with two outs. Austin Wells was plunked. Verdugo walked to load the bases. Vesia escaped from the jam scorelessly.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.
Brusdar Graterol relieved Vesia in the sixth. He walked Soto to start the sixth. He walked Judge. Chisholm hit into a force play erasing Judge. Staton’s sac fly scored Soto. Anthony Rizzo walked.
With two outs in the sixth, Blake Treinen relieved Graterol. He escaped from the jam.
With two outs in the seventh, Freeman walked. Teoscar Hernández walked. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Treinen continued pitching in the seventh. He was perfect.
Kiké Hernández singled to open the eighth. Tommy Edman singled moving Hernández to second. Will Smith walked to load the bases. Lux’s sac fly scored Kiké Hernández. Catcher’s interference put Ohtani on first and loaded the bases. Betts’ sacrifice fly scored Smith.
Treinen continued pitching in the eighth. With an out, Judge doubled. Chisholm walked. Treinen wiggled out of the jam scorelessly.
Teoscar Hernández singled to begin the ninth. Chris Taylor ran for Teoscar Hernández. Taylor was balked to second. Kiké Hernández walked. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Walker Buehler relieved Treinen in the ninth.. He was perfect as he sealed the eighth Dodger world championship.
