On a beautiful Friday night at Camelback Ranch, the Los Angeles Dodgers snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-to4 comeback victory against the Cleveland Guardians.
Tyler Glasnow was dominant in the first inning against the Guardians. Since the Dodgers traded for Glasnow in December, they expected him to be their second best starter after Yoshinobu Yamamoto. In his first outing of spring training, he struggled, but he was battling nerves. While growing up, Glasnow was a Dodger fan and dreamed of pitching for the Dodgers.
To open the second, Glasnow walked a batter but didn’t allow anything else. He obviously was working on his curveball. Glasnow pitched a perfect third and had five strikeouts.
Friday, Clayton Kershaw returned to Camelback Ranch. Four weeks ago, he began a throwing program, and he progressed. His shoulder feels healed, and he is building shoulder strength. He should be back after the All-Star break. This was the first significant shoulder surgery of his career. While he will spend more time with his family, Kershaw probably will spend every homestand with the team.
Chris Owings, a non-roster invitee, singled and stole second. Shohei Ohtani singled and scored a run. Freddie Freeman hit into the double play to end the third.
Nabil Crismatt, another non-roster invitee, walked a batter with two outs but got out of the fourth inning. He continued in the fifth. Owings made an error. Crismatt allowed a double steal after another fielding miscue. He allowed two runs.
Kiké Hernàndez in his first game doubled but was stranded at third.
Owings doubled in the fifth. Ohtani walked. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Blake Treinen pitched a perfect sixth. Barring an injury, he will be on the Opening Day roster.
Matt Gage hit a batter with a pitch but didn’t allow anything else in the seventh inning.
J.P. Feyereisen made his Dodger debut after missing the 2023 season with shoulder surgery. He allowed a triple, doubles, and a single for two runs. He got out of the jam in the eighth inning.
In the eighth, the Dodgers scored five runs. During this spring training, the Dodgers scored the most in the eighth of all major league teams.
