The Dodgers Outpowered the Cubs

On a picturesque Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided the sweep by the Chicago Cubs. While Bobby Miller allowed seven runs in 4.2 innings, the Dodger offense blasted five home runs. Shohei Ohtani, Tommy Edman, Will Smith, and Max Muncy homered in the first inning. For the second consecutive game, Edman hit two homers. Though Michael Kopech struggled in the ninth with his control, he managed to preserve the win. The Dodgers out-slugged the Chicago Cubs 10-8. The Dodgers are 4.5 games in front of the Arizona Diamondbacks and 5.5 games in front of the San Diego Padres.

Bobby Miller walked two batters with two outs in the first inning and allowed a run-scoring single. Michael Busch singled in Cody Bellinger. Finally, Miller got out of the first inning on 33 pitches.

Shohei Ohtani blasted his 47th home run to start the game for the Dodgers. Teoscar Hernández singled. Tommy Edman hit a two-run homer to give the Dodgers the lead. Will Smith blasted an opposite-field home run. Max Muncy blasted a solo home run. Miguel Rojas singled. The Dodgers couldn’t do any more damage.

Miller was perfect in the second.

Oi walked to open the second and stole his 48th base. Teoscar Hernández walked. The Dodgers didn’t score

Miller allowed a solo home run in the third. He walked a batter with two outs but didn’t let him score.

With an out, Muncy walked, and then Rojas singled him to second. Ohtani singled in Muncy and Rojas. Mookie Betts walked. The Dodgers didn’t score anymore.

Miller was perfect in the fourth.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.

To start the fifth, Miller allowed a single and a walk. Cody Bellinger hit a three-run homer.

Dave Roberts relieved Miller with 4.1 innings pitched with Daniel Hudson. He walked the first two batters to face him. Chris Taylor made an error that loaded the bases. Hudson allowed a single that tied the game. Hudson didn’t let any more damage occur.

To open the fifth, Muncy walked. The Dodgers stranded Muncy.

Blake Treinen relieved Hudson in the sixth. He had a scoreless inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.

Alex Vesia relieved Treinen in the seventh. Despite a one-out walk, Vesia hurled a scoreless inning.

Smith doubled with an out in the seventh. Muncy’s ground-out advanced Smith to third. Rojas walked. Gavin Lux singled scoring Smith, breaking the tie.

Evan Phillips relieved Vesia in the eighth. He was perfect after a night when he was victimized by poor defense.

With two outs in the eighth, Teoscar Hernández singled. Edman hit another two-run homer.

Michael Kopech relieved Phillips in the ninth. He walked the first batter to face him. He walked the bases loaded. He allowed a sacrifice fly to score a run. Smith caught a runner trying to steal. He struck out Busch to end the game.
