The Dodgers Outlast the Yankees

This was the biggest series for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. The Dodgers matched the Yankees for pitch by pitch. Yoshinobu Yamamoto performed outstandingly for seven innings. Teoscar Hernandez doubled in two runs in the eleventh. The Dodgers beat the mighty Yankees 2-to-1 in eleven innings on a picturesque Friday night in the Bronx.  

Yoshinobu Yamamoto was up to the challenge, facing the best team in the major leagues. Yamamoto was perfect in the third.

In the fourth, against the best pitching staff in the major leagues, Teoscar Hernandez was plunked by a pitch with two outs in the fourth. The Dodgers didn’t score.

In the fourth, Yamamoto continued to dominate and hurled another perfect inning.

With two outs in the fifth, Kike Hernandez walked. Mookie Betts singled moving Hernandez to second. Shohei Ohtani grounded out to end the scoring threat.

Yamamoto hurled a perfect fifth.

Freddie Freeman was plunked by a pitch to open the sixth, and Will Smith struck out. The Yankees took out the former Dodger Victor Gonzalez. Teoscar Hernandez struck out. Jason Heyward grounded out.

Yamamoto had gotten out of a jam in the seventh after throwing 106 pitches.

Against Caleb Ferguson in the eighth, the Dodgers couldn’t do anything offensively.

Anthony Banda after allowing 2 singles with two outs was relieved by Blake Treinen in the eighth. Treinen walked Aaron Judge to load the bases. He got the last out of the inning.

The Dodgers did nothing offensively in the ninth.

Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect ninth.

With Andy Pages placed on second base, Kike Hernandez hit into a force play. Betts walked. Shohei Ohtani couldn’t get the runners to score in the tenth.

After pitching two innings last night, Michael Grove pitched in the tenth and retired the first batter without the placed runner advancing. Grove hurled a perfect tenth inning.

With Ohtani placed on second, Freeman walked. Will Smith couldn’t advance the runners with his shallow fly ball. Teoscar Hernandez doubled in Ohtani and Freeman. Pages walked with two outs in the eleventh. Gavin Lux’s fly out ended the scoring threat.

Yohan Ramirez allowed a run when Aaron Judge singled with one out in the eleventh. He struck out the second out.
