Going into the series against the Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers might be lucky to win one out of three from the strong New York Yankees. Teoscar Hernandez tied a career-high with 6 RBI with a solo home run and a grand slam. While Gavin Stone didn’t have his best stuff, he went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs. The Los Angeles Dodgers punched the New York Yankees 11-to-3 even though Aaron Judge blasted two home runs.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first.
Gavin Stone allowed two singles before facing Aaron Judge in the first inning. Judge hit a fly ball moving the runner to third. He didn’t allow a run.
With an out in the second, Teoscar Hernandez homered. Andy Pages singled, and Miguel Rojas hit into a double play.
To open the second inning, Stone allowed two singles and the tying run. While struggling, Stone didn’t let the Yankees score.
Kike Hernandez walked to open the third, and Chris Taylor singled. Shohei Ohtani singled in K. Hernandez. Freddie Freeman couldn’t extend the scoring opportunity.
In the third, Stone allowed a solo home run to Aaron Judge. At no time during this game, Stone had an easy inning. Stone didn’t allow any more runs in the third. He was overmatched by the Yankees, but he was hanging on.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.
Stone finally had an easy inning. While he was pitching well, the Yankees were full of professional hitters.
Kike Hernandez blasted a solo home run with one out in the fifth.
Stone with two outs in the fifth allowed a double to Alex Verdugo and walked Judge. He got out of the jam.
With an out in the sixth, Freeman doubled, and Smith singled moving Freeman to third. T. Hernandez hit into a force play, but Freeman scored.
With two outs in the sixth, Stone allowed two singles. Mark Prior immediately visited him to get him to retire the last out in the sixth. He walked the batter after Prior.
Dave Roberts took out Stone in favor of Alex Vesia and got the last out in the sixth without allowing the Yankees to score.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the seventh, and their bullpen must hold the Yankees silent if they want to win this game.
Vesia pitched a perfect seventh, including striking out Judge.
To start the eighth, Mookie Betts walked, and Ohtani reached on an error moving Betts to second. Freeman struck out. Smith walked to load the bases. Teoscar Hernandez blasted a grand slam to break the game open. Rojas singled but was out trying to stretch it to a double.
Ryan Yarbrough relieved Vesia and pitched a scoreless eighth.
With two outs in the ninth, Betts had an infield single, and Ohtani walked. Freeman doubled in Betts and Ohtani. Andy Pages walked in a run.
