A picturesque Tuesday evening at Camelback Ranch, the Los Angeles Angels shutout the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-to-0. For most of the spring, the Dodgers have done well with runners in scoring position but not Tuesday evening.
Bobby Miller had a perfect first inning, featuring an outstanding curveball. He also dominated in the second inning. To start the third, Miller allowed a single, a stolen base, and a walk but nothing else.
To lead off the second, Jason Heyward singled but was erased by a double play by Kiké Hernàndez.
Chris Okey, a minor league catcher, singled. Austin Barnes was scratched because of back stiffness before the game. Twice Shohei Ohtani struck out. Freddie Freeman singled.
Daniel Hudson allowed a single, a walk, and a run. If the Dodgers could have turned a double play, Hudson wouldn’t have allowed a run.
Nabil Crismatt allowed a single, a wild pitch that a runner went to third, a walk, two runs, and was taken out with no outs.
Evan Phillips pitched perfectly to end the fifth inning.
An error by the Angels’ shortstop allowed Miguel Rojas but was erased by a force play. Ohtani flew out to end the fifth.
Blake Treinen pitched a perfect sixth.
Max Muncy was hit on the knee and was immediately taken out. Heyward singled, but Kiké Hernàndez struck out to end the seventh inning.
Justin Wilson allowed another run but struck out the side in the seventh.
Ohtani isn’t worried about being ready for Opening Day. He feels good but wants to have quality at-bats. He will play on Wednesday.
Matt Gage allowed a hard-hit single to lead off the eighth inning but didn’t allow anything else.
J.P. Feyereisen allowed a walk but got out of the ninth inning scorelessly.
