Tanner Scott Enabled the Dodgers to Repay the Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the New York Mets 6-to-5 in ten innings on a cool Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Clayton Kershaw pitched satisfactorily for 4.2 innings, and the bullpen, including Tanner Scott, was brilliant. Max Muncy had two home runs. The Dodgers keep a game in front of the San Diego Padres at the top of the National League Western Division.

Shohei Ohtani was the National League Player of the Month for May when he blasted 15 home runs. This tied a Dodger franchise record when Pedro Guerrero did it in June 1985. Ohtani beat Freddie Freeman for the honor. In May, Freeman had a .410 batting average with 4 home runs and 21 RBI.

Clayton Kershaw allowed a single with an out in the first and threw a wild pitch to advance the runner to second. He allowed a run-producing single. Kershaw struck out the last batter of the inning.

With an out in the first, Mookie Betts singled, and Freddie Freeman doubled in Betts. Freeman took third on the throw. Teoscar Hernández walked. Will Smith’s groundout scored Freeman and moved Hernández to second. Max Muncy launched the ball to the moon for a two-run homer.

To start the second, Kershaw issued a walk but was erased on a double play. He issued another walk. He got out of the inning scorelessly.

In the second, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.

Kershaw allowed a single to Francisco Lindor to start the third. Juan Soto hit a two-run homer.

The Dodgers went down 1-2-3 in the third.

Kershaw was perfect in the fourth.

With two outs in the fourth, Andy Pages doubled but was left.

With an out in the first, Kershaw issued a walk to Lindor and allowed a single, moving Lindor to second. A double by Pete Alfonso tied the score. Kershaw allowed an infield single that scored the go-ahead run.

Ben Casparius relieved Kershaw with two outs in the fifth and retired the last batter of the inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fifth.

Casparius continued pitching in the sixth with a perfect inning.

The Dodgers went down in order in the sixth.

Casparius continued pitching in the seventh with a perfect inning.

Kiké Hernández walked with two outs in the seventh but was stranded.

Casparius continued pitching in the eighth and retired the first batter. Alex Vesia relieved him and allowed a single with two outs. He retired the last batter of the inning.

Shohei Ohtani walked to open the eighth, and Betts singled, moving Ohtani to second. Ohtani and Betts moved up on a wild pitch. Teoscar Hernández grounded into a force play, erasing Ohtani. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on a scoring opportunity.

José Urena relieved Vesia and allowed a double. With two outs in the ninth, Anthony Banda relieved him and retired the last batter of the inning.

Muncy blasted a solo homer to start the ninth.

Tanner Scott relieved Banda in the tenth and was perfect.

Ohtani was intentionally walked to open the tenth. Freeman singled in Edman, the winning run.
