The pitching injuries are beginning for the lead Los Angeles Dodgers. On Sunday, the Dodgers put Blake Snell on the 15-day IL with left shoulder inflammation. Now, they are scrambling to find starters on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This offseason, the Dodgers signed Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million contract. During his career, Snell hasn’t had arm injuries. At 32, he has shoulder inflammation. The Dodgers hope their ace can return to the starting rotation sometime in May.
Because the Dodgers have Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki, who are scheduled to pitch once a week, they are in a bit of trouble. However, the Dodgers have incredible pitching depth in the minor leagues. This is the first time this season that the Dodgers have played six consecutive games.
When the Dodgers placed Snell on the IL, they promoted Matt Sauer. Sauer had a great spring training. Sauer went to Japan with the Dodgers and pitched well, and he probably will be a part of a bullpen game for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers have many options in Triple-A to do for Wednesday’s game. Landon Knack has pitched well in spring training and Triple-A. He demonstrated he could get major leaguers out in the 2024 season.
Justin Wrobleski had a great spring. Wrobleski, a left-hander, did well in his cup of coffee with the Dodgers in the 2024 season.
Bobby Miller couldn’t pitch during spring training after being hit in the head with a line. He had a rough 2024 season after having a breakout 2023 season.
The Dodgers have had plenty of experience dealing with starting pitchers’ injuries. Thus, they will survive without Snell.
