On Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers put Bobby Miller on the IL. While the major leagues have a rash of pitchers’ injuries, the Dodgers have been mostly unaffected by this, but they have a complete starting rotation on the IL.
Losing Miller for a brief period is a blow for the Dodgers. He has right shoulder inflammation. He wasn’t recovering well after his last start against the Minnesota Twins. In his last two starts, Miller hasn’t performed the way the Dodgers have been accustomed from him.
According to a Dodger official, Miller doesn’t have any structural damage. The Dodgers hope they caught the injury in time to avoid a lengthy time on the IL.
Miller was viewed as the Dodgers’ second best starter. They must replace him because the Dodgers want to give their starters extra rest between starts to try to avoid injuries. Walker Buehler should return from his second Tommy John surgery. Until then, the Dodgers might have a bullpen game every week.
Tyler Glasnow has established himself as the ace of the starting rotation. Yoshinobu Yamamoto has had three magnificent starts. Gavin Stone pitched outstandingly on Saturday night against the San Diego Padres. James Paxton, the lefty in the Dodger starting rotation, has shown his veteran status in every start he has made.
Most people think Ryan Yarbrough will take over Miller’s spot, but he is more valuable to the Dodgers as a long man in the bullpen. Michael Grove can be a starter, but he has struggled.
Losing Miller for any amount of time this season is a blow for the Dodgers. While Miller is out in April, it is better than in August as the team prepares for the playoffs.
