Shohei Ohtani had a walk-off single to beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-to-2. The Los Angeles Dodgers took 3 out of 4 games from the last place Reds.
The Dodgers have 7.5-game lead over the second place San Diego Padres. Landon Knack was terrific in his return to the major leagues.
Before the game, the Dodgers recalled Landon Knack and the newly acquired Anthony Banda from the Cleveland Guardians and sent down Ricky Vanasco and J.P. Feyereisen. Apparently, the Dodgers didn’t want Yoshinobu Yamamoto to pitch against the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers will miss Feyereisen who had been big for the team while they don’t have Evan Phillips or Brusdar Graterol.
After his first game off, Mookie Betts returned while Will Smith rested.
Landon Knack despite a walk pitched a scoreless first inning in his return to the major leagues.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first.
Knack pitched a scoreless second.
The Dodgers wasted a scoring opportunity in the second.
In the third, Knack again pitched a scoreless inning, and the Dodgers shouldn’t have sent him to Oklahoma City ever. He has shown himself as a good major league starter.
Hunter Greene, a Los Angeles native, was baffling the Dodgers. With two outs in the third, Betts singled. Shohei Ohtani ended the inning with a fly out.
In the fourth, Knack was impressed.
To open the fourth, Freddie Freeman singled. Andy Pages homered.
Knack allowed a run on two doubles in the fifth. With two outs, Ryan Yarborough relieved Knack and recorded the last out of the inning.
In the fifth, Kikè Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani walked. The Dodgers didn’t score.
Yarbrough hurled a scoreless sixth inning.
The Dodgers did nothing offensively in the sixth.
Before Dave Roberts relieved Yarbrough in the seventh with one out, Yarbrough loaded the bases. Alex Vesia walked in the tying run. Vesia got out of the jam.
In the seventh, Jason Heyward singled and stole second. The Dodgers wasted another scoring opportunity.
Vesia continued pitching in the eighth and dominated.
To open the eighth, Ohtani had an infield single, but Freeman hit into a double play.
Blake Treinen hurled a scoreless ninth despite allowing two base runners.
The Reds’ pitcher left with an injury with two outs in the ninth. Jason Heyward struck out on a bad call to end the ninth inning.
Anthony Banda debut as a Dodger in the tenth and hurled a perfect inning.
Will Smith, pinch hitting for Austin Barnes, walked with one out in the tenth. Ohtani singled in the winning run.
