On a beautiful Friday night at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 14-to-11. Roki Sasaki struggled through four innings. In the second inning, the Dodgers scored seven runs, and in the ninth, they scored six runs. This was an important win.
Shohei Ohtani started the game with a double, and Mookie Betts singled him to third. Freddie Freeman had a sacrifice fly, scoring Ohtani and moving Betts to second. The Dodgers left Betts.
For the first time in his career, Roki Sasaki was pitching on five days’ rest. With an out in the first, Sasaki allowed a solo home run. He allowed a double. He gave up a two-run homer.
To begin the second, Kiké Hernández homered. Miguel Rojas singled and scored on Ohtani’s double.
With an out in the second, Sasaki allowed a single but nothing else.
Will Smith walked to open the third and moved to third on Freeman’s double. Andy Pages singled in Smith and Freeman. Kiké Hernández singled, moving Pages to second. Rojas walked to load the bases. James Outman had an infield single and a throwing error that scored Pages and Kiké Hernández. Chris Taylor bunted for a single to load the bases. Ohtani struck out. Betts’ sacrifice fly scored Rojas. Smith walked again to load the bases.
Sasaki used 6 pitches to retire the Diamondbacks in the third.
In the fourth, the Dodgers went down in order.
To open the fourth, Sasaki allowed a double and allowed a run on two ground outs. He plunked a batter. He issued a walk, but Sasaki escaped from the jam.
In the fifth, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.
Sasaki walked the lead-off batter in the fifth. Anthony Banda relieved him. Banda allowed a single. He issued a walk to load the bases. He allowed a grand slam to tie the score.
With an out in the sixth, Smith walked, but didn’t go anywhere.
Banda continued pitching in the sixth and allowed a lead-off single. He intentionally walked a batter to set up a double play. He issued a walk to load the bases. After a strikeout, Luis Garcia relieved Banda and walked in a run. he got a ground ball to end the inning.
The Dodgers went down in order in the seventh.
Garcia continued pitching in the seventh and allowed a single with two outs. He uncorked a wild pitch. He got out of the jam scorelessly.
In the eighth, Betts singled and stole second. Smith struck out to end the inning.
Alex Vesia relieved Garcia in the eighth and allowed a solo home run. he gave up another. He retired the next three batters.
Freeman had an infield single to start the ninth. Pages doubled in Freeman. Kiké Hernández doubled in Pages. Max Muncy singled in Hernández to tie the game. Hyeseong Kim was running for Muncy. Michael Conforto was plunked. Ohtani sent the ball to the moon for a three-run homer.
Tanner Scott relieved Vesia in the ninth with a perfect inning.
