Just before spring training, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Ryan Brasier, a right-handed reliever, to a two-year $6 million. He was set to have a great 2024 season but had a bad right calf strain. When he returned from injury, he still played a crucial role in the Dodger bullpen.
Brasier, 37, signed a minor league contract on June 5, 2023. The Dodgers quickly taught Brasier a slider, so Brasier made his Dodger debut on June 20th. In 38 2/3 innings, he had a 0.70 ERA over 39 games.
Brasier had a more difficult 2024 season than he did in 2023. When he missed over three months with a right calf injury, he never hit his stride during the 2024 season. In 29 games pitching 28 innings, Brasier had a 3.54 ERA. During the postseason, he played a crucial role even though he allowed runs.
If Brasier can stay healthy, he will continue to be a main reliever in the Dodger bullpen. If he doesn’t, he will not play an important role.
