It was the first night game for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers lost the Cincinnati Reds 5-to-4.

In his Dodger debut, James Paxton allowed a run in the first inning. His stuff was impressive, and he struck out the side. Last season he was with the Boston Red Sox. Paxton was terrific before the All-Star break before suffering a knee injury. If Paxton makes the team, he will give the Dodgers another left-hander in their starting rotation.

Alex Vesia, making his third appearance in spring training, struck out two batters before issuing a walk. He had a wild pitch. Gavin Lux misplayed a ball.

With two outs in the third inning, Lao, a minor leaguer, struck out for the last out of the inning.

Landon Knack walked the first batter to face him. He allowed an RBI-triple. Another run scored. He pitched well in his second inning.

Mookie Betts belted a two-run homer.

Kevin Gowdy pitched a perfect sixth inning.

The stadium in Goodyear, Arizona didn’t have good lights resulting in many strikeouts.

To start the seventh, Teoscar Hernández doubled. Lux singled in the tying run. A rookie, running for Lux, stole second base but was stranded.
