Padres Defeat Dodgers in Thrilling Game at Petco Park

In front of a record-setting crowd at Petco Park, the Padres took advantage of sloppy Dodger defense to score six runs in the second. Walker Buehler pitched well for five innings. Mookie Betts homered in the first, and Teoscar Hernández socked a grand slam. The San Diego Padres inched out the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-to-5. If the Dodgers don’t win tomorrow, their season is over.

Mookie Betts homered with an out in the first. Teoscar Hernández walked. The Dodgers didn’t score any more runs.

Walker Buehler thrived under pressure in the past, but this season is different from the past. Buehler had a perfect first inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the second.

Buehler allowed a single to Manny Machado to open the second inning. The Dodger defense allowed the Padres to score a run. A double scored two runs. An infield single continued the inning. A sacrifice fly added another run. Fernando Tatis, Jr, slammed a two-run homer.

Miguel Rojas singled to open the third. Shohei Ohtani singled Rojas to second. Betts singled to fill the bases. Rojas left the game. Teoscar Hernández blasted a grand slam.

Buehler had a perfect third inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.

To open the fourth, Buehler allowed a single. Buehler got out of the inning scorelessly.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fifth.

Buehler allowed a single to Machado with two outs in the fifth. Machado went to second on a wild pitch. Buehler got out of the jam scorelessly.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.

Anthony Banda relieved Buehler in the sixth with a perfect inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the seventh.

Banda continued pitching in the seventh with an out.

Daniel Hudson relieved Banda with an out in the seventh. He was perfect.

With two outs in the eighth, Freddie Freeman singled. Chris Taylor ran for Freeman. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.

Michael Kopech relieved Hudson in the eighth with a perfect inning.
