On a beautiful Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium, Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave the Dodgers what they needed most – 7 innings of shutout ball. The Dodgers couldn’t score more than a run. Tanner Scott blew a save and then gave up a two-run homer. However, the Dodgers scored three runs in the tenth to snap a four-game losing streak with a 4-to-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was trying to halt a 4-game losing streak. In the first, he was perfect. For the first time on this home stand, the Dodgers weren’t trailing going into the bottom of the first.
With an out in the first, Mookie Betts singled, but Freddie Freeman hit into a double play.
Yamamoto was perfect in the second.
In the second, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.
In the third, Yamamoto was exquisite.
The Dodgers went down in order in the third.
With an out in the fourth, Yamamoto issued a walk but didn’t allow anything else.
Freddie Freeman doubled with two outs in the fourth and scored on Will Smith’s double. Max Muncy walked. The Dodgers couldn’t score any more runs.
In the fifth, Yamamoto was perfect.
The Dodgers went down in order in the fifth.
Yamamoto struck out three batters in the sixth.
Freeman doubled with two outs in the sixth but didn’t score.
Yamamoto allowed a single to open the seventh. On a wild pitch, the runner advanced to second. On a ground ball, the runner advanced to third. He issued a walk. He escaped from the jam scorelessly.
Muncy singled to open the seventh but didn’t score.
After 110, a career high, Yamamoto was finished after a marvelous performance when he struck out 9 and allowed 1 hit. Alex Vesia relieved him and allowed a lead-off double. He allowed a bunt single, moving the runner to third. He intentionally walked to load the bases. Dave Roberts relieved Vesia with Ben Casparius. Casparius struck out the last batter of the eighth to preserve the lead.
With an out in the eighth, Shohei Ohtani doubled but was left.
Tanner Scott relieved Casparius in the ninth and allowed a solo home run to tie the game. Scott allowed an infield single but retired the last batter.
To open the ninth, Smith walked, and Teoscar Hernández walked with two outs. Kiké Hernández struck out to end the inning.
Scott continued pitching in the tenth and gave up a two-run homer.
Tommy Edman doubled in Kiké Hernández in the tenth. Ohtani was intentionally walked. Edman moved to third on Betts’ fly ball. Ohtani moved to second. Freeman was intentionally walked. Smith was plunked to tie the game. Muncy’s sacrifice fly scored Ohtani, the winning run.
