Mookie Betts won’t play in the Opener since he has had flu-like symptoms. Since last Monday, Betts has had these symptoms which caused him to lose 15 pounds.

Betts is a little man with supreme athletic skills. This season, Betts is trying to be a Gold Glove shortstop after being a 6-time Gold Glove right fielder. This transition has been difficult for Betts. During this past offseason, he worked hard on becoming the best shortstop that he can be, even getting advice from Gold Glove shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

This spring Betts looked more comfortable at shortstop than he did in the first half of the 2024 season before breaking his hand.

The Dodgers hope Betts can start the domestic Opening Day against the Detroit Tigers. The Dodgers are trying to rehydrate Betts. Betts must regain his strength before he plays. If Betts misses the domestic Opening Day, it is not important. The Dodgers must have Betts for the long haul.
