Before the ninth, the Los Angeles Dodgers seemed to be determined to lengthen their losing streak, but they came alive offensively. Tyler Glasnow pitched wonderfully for seven innings. The Dodgers beat the New York Mets 5-to-2 in ten innings in the first game of the doubleheader.
With two outs in the first, Freddie Freeman singled but was stranded as Will Smith flied out.
Tyler Glasnow walked Brandon Nimmo but struck out the side in the first. He struggled with his control when he had three full counts.
Teoscar Hernández opened the second inning with a double, but it’s the same old story for the Dodgers. Hernández didn’t leave second base.
Glasnow used seven pitches to retire the Mets in the second inning. His control was much better than in the first.
Mookie Betts singled with one out in the third and Betts moved to second on Shohei Ohtani’s ground out. He didn’t score.
To start the third, Glasnow walked a batter but was forced on a ground ball to Freeman. He struggled with his control, and he allowed a two-run homer to Francisco Lindor. He allowed a single to Pete Alfonso. Glasnow was laboring and walked Nimmo. J.D. Martinez grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The Dodgers went down in order in the fourth.
Glasnow’s trouble with the control continued in the fourth. A double play got him out of the jam.
Jason Hayward walked in the fifth but was stranded.
In the fifth, Glasnow faced the minimum.
The Dodgers did nothing in the sixth.

In the seventh, three Dodgers struck out.
Glasnow was brilliant in the seventh when he retired the Mets on six pitches.
Against a reliever, in the eighth, Heyward singled. Andy Pages hit into a force play. Betts reached on an error. Ohtani hit into a force play. Freeman singled in Pages. Smith struck out to end the scoring threat.
Michael Grove hurled a perfect eighth.
Hernández singled to start the ninth, and Gavin Lux singled moving Hernández to third. Chris Taylor bunted for a single and scored Hernández. Pages hit into a double play to end the scoring threat.
Daniel Hudson allowed a leadoff single and another single to Martinez. Hudson walked a batter to load the bases.
In the tenth, Betts delivered a single to drive in Pages, and then, Freeman blasted a two-run homer. Hernández singled.
Blake Treinen pitched the tenth to preserve the victory.
