In ten innings, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 6-to-4. Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched well despite not having good breaking balls. The bullpen was fantastic. Will Smith delivered the killing blow.
Although Mookie Betts led off the game with a home run, the Dodgers have wasted many scoring opportunities. In the fifth, Andy Pages singled, but James Outman’s struggles continued with a strikeout. Shohei Ohtani had an infield single to drive in Pages. With an out in the sixth, Max Muncy walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Gavin Lux’s double.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitched well despite not having his best stuff and allowing a three-run homer. Yamamoto had trouble with his breaking balls, but he had exquisite command of the fastball. In the sixth, Yamamoto walked the first two hitters and allowed a run. With two outs in the sixth, Dave Roberts relieved Yamamoto.
Alex Vesia retired the last out in the sixth.
Kiké Hernàndez pinch hitting for Outman homered in the seventh inning.
Michael Grove came in the seventh and hurled a perfect inning.
Will Smith singled to open the eighth and was stranded.
Blake Treinen pitched the ninth even picking off a batter.
With an out in the tenth, Freddie Freeman walked. Smith doubled in Betts and Freeman.
J.P. Feyereisen pitched a scoreless tenth to preserve the win.
The Dodgers showed an incredible amount of heart to win this game at Oracle Park. Coming off a tough series in San Diego, the Dodgers could have given up on this game. The banged-up bullpen has been remarkable over twenty games.
