Los Angeles Dodgers Roster Changes: Knack’s Demotion, Rojas’ Injury, and Ahmed’s Arrival

Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers had much news. This news will shape the rest of the season. Since many teams have postseason aspirations, I don’t expect much action on Tuesday, July 30th from Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes.

Kyle Hurt, a promising young pitcher, will undergo Tommy John surgery next week and will miss the remainder of this season and the 2025 season. In his brief major league career, Hurt has made a splash.

Wednesday, the Dodgers activated Tyler Glasnow from the IL after spending twenty days on it with a sore back. They need Glasnow to perform the way he did before the New York Yankees series. In his first All-Star season, he has 8 wins and 5 losses with a 3.47 ERA. He needs to have better control of his offspeed pitches than he had in June.

To make room for Glasnow, the Dodgers demoted Landon Knack who has shown everyone he is ready for the major leagues. Since Knack has been in the majors, he has been fantastic with 2 wins and 2 losses with a 3.07 ERA. On Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants, Knack was brilliant for five innings and allowed a run. He will have time in the major leagues again in the 2024 season, barring an injury.

On Sunday, Miguel Rojas left the game with right forearm tightness. At first, the Dodgers hoped Rojas could return on Wednesday, but he had imaging done revealing he has a strained flexor tendon. The Dodgers put him on the ten-day IL; however, they don’t know when Rojas will return to the active roster. The Dodgers will miss him both defensively and offensively.

Since Mookie Betts is on the IL with a broken hand, the Dodgers needed a shortstop. Kiké Hernàndez could play there, but it would limit his versatility, his most valuable asset.

Earlier this month, the Giants released Nick Ahmed, a two-time Gold Glove shortstop. Never known for his offense, Ahmed hit .232 with a home run and 15 RBI. If Ahmed can play good defensive shortstop until Betts returns, the Dodgers will be happy.

After I graduated from Pasadena City College, I started writing about my favorite team. In August 2001, I was featured in Her Blue Haven by Bill Plaschke. I was a freelance writer for Major League Baseball Advanced Media from 2001 to 2018. This website provides you a professional outlook on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
