Landon Knack’s Stellar Performance Despite Loss: Dodgers vs. Guardians

On a blistering Friday night at Dodger Stadium, Landon Knack pitched the best he has in the major leagues despite suffering the loss. He went six innings allowing two runs on a home run. Although Anthony Banda allowed a solo home run, the bullpen was brilliant. Shohei Ohtani blasted his 45th home run, and that was the only offense the Dodgers produced. The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Cleveland Guardians 3-to-1.

Landon Knack was making his first major league start since July 23rd. Knack was perfect in the first.

With an out in the first, Mookie Betts doubled, and a pitch hit Teoscar Hernández’s foot. He must leave the game. Chris Taylor was pinch-running for Teoscar Hernández. The Dodgers stranded Betts and Taylor.

Knack walked a batter with two outs in the second but struck out the side.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the second.

Teoscar Hernández had a left foot contusion.

In the third, Knack was perfect.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the third.

With one out in the fourth, Knack allowed a single and a stolen base. He escaped from the jam scorelessly by striking out his seventh batter.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.

Knack breezed through the fifth.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.

Knack allowed a single to open the sixth and then a two-run homer. He didn’t allow any more damage.

With one out in the sixth, Shohei Ohtani blasted his 45th home run of the season. Freddie Freeman singled.

Daniel Hudson relieved Knack, who had a career-high in strikeouts, in the seventh. He allowed a lead-off double, but the runner was caught stealing. Will Smith leads the major leagues in caught stealing. Hudson faced the minimum.

 Although Miguel Rojas reached on an error, he didn’t advance in the seventh.

Anthony Banda allowed a solo home run and then a walk with an out in the eighth. With two outs, Banda intentionally walked José Ramirez. He escaped from the jam with no more damage.

Max Muncy pinch-hit for Kiké Hernández and flied out to start the eighth. Ohtani singled, Betts doubled, and Freddie Freeman walked intentionally to load the bases. Taylor hit into a double play to end the eighth inning.

Ryan Brasier relieved Banda in the ninth. He was perfect thanks to a good defensive play by Muncy.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the ninth.
