Landon Knack Struggles in Dodgers’ Loss to Padres

The San Diego Padres outplayed the Los Angeles Dodgers. Landon Knack couldn’t answer the moment when he allowed four runs in four innings. The Dodgers’ bullpen performed brilliantly for five innings when they didn’t allow a run. The Dodgers had many scoring opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on most of them. The Dodgers lost to the Padres 4-to-2, cutting their lead in the National League Western Division to two games.

Landon Knack started the biggest game of his major league career against the San Diego Padres. Knack had a perfect first inning.

Shohei Ohtani opened the game with a screaming double, and Mookie Betts reached on an error that scored Ohtani. Teoscar Hernandez singled moving Betts to third. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring threat.

Knack allowed a single with an out in the second and a two-run homer.

Will Smith singled to open the second. Tommy Edman’s ground ball moved Smith to second. Miguel Rojas walked. Ohtani walked to load the bases. The Dodgers couldn’t score even with the bases loaded.

Knack came back after a rough second to have a perfect third inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the third.

To open the fourth, Knack allowed a double. He gave up a run-scoring single. Knack balked the runner to second. He gave up another double that scored two more runs. He issued a walk with a wild pitch. Despite throwing more than thirty pitches, Knack could escape the fourth.

The Dodgers went quietly in the fourth.

Brusdar Graterol relieved Knack in the fifth with a 5-pitch perfect inning.

The Dodgers went down in order thanks to sparkling defense by the Padres.

Daniel Hudson relieved Graterol in the sixth. He allowed an infield single, but Rojas made a fantastic double play.

Max Muncy singled with two outs in the sixth, and Smith walked. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.

Edgardo Henriquez relieved Hudson in the seventh. Henrique, 22, made his major league debut. He struck out the first batter to face him. He allowed a single. He allowed a stolen base. He pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Kike Hernandez singled to open the seventh. Rojas hit into a double play. The Dodgers couldn’t score.

Brent Honeywell relieved Henriquez in the eighth. With an out, Manny Machado doubled. Honeywell didn’t let the Padres score.

Another great catch by the Padres prevented Betts from reaching. Teoscar Hernandez doubled with two outs in the eighth. The Dodgers couldn’t drive in Hernandez.

Honeywell continued pitching in the ninth. Edman made a sliding catch. He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Smith opened the ninth with a single. Edman singled moving Smith to third. Kike Hernandez singled in Smith and moved Edman to second. The Padres turned a triple play.
