Pitching was name of the game on Friday night at Petco Park. Michael King matched Tyler Glasnow pitch to pitch. Michael Grove gave up the winning run. The Los Angeles Dodgers snapped their seven-game winning streak with a 2-to-1 loss to the San Diego Padres.
Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman did nothing in the first.
Though Tyler Glasnow went to a full-count on Luis Arrez, he retired him, Fernando Tatis, Jr., and Jake Cronenworth in order in the first inning.
Teoscar Hernandez reached on an error. #44 Andy Pages walked. They were stranded when Gavin Lux struck out.
Glasnow breezed through the second inning with three strikeouts. He looked dominant.
The Padres’ starter Michael King looked good as he struck out six Dodgers first time through the lineup. Mookie Betts walked with an out in the third, went to second on Ohtani’s single, but Freeman struck out. Will Smith struck out stranding the runners.
With an out in the third, Glasnow allowed a solo home run. He still dominated the Padres.
The Dodgers did nothing in the fourth.
Glasnow had great curveball and slider as he mowed down the Padres in the fourth.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything in the fifth.
Glasnow walked the lead-off batter in the fifth, but he faced the minimum.
With an out in the sixth, Freeman singled, but Smith fanned for the third time in the game, the first in the 2024 season. Max Muncy struck out.
This game featured the strikeout. Both teams had difficulty making contact.
Glasnow walked Ha-Seong Kim, but Kim was erased by a double play.
In the seventh, Pages walked but was forced by Gavin Lux’s ground ball. James Outman’s grounder ended the inning.
Glasnow struck out ten at the least. Glasnow went through seven innings allowing one hit.
Mookie Betts singled to open the eighth. Ohtani doubled Betts to third and scored on Freeman’s sac fly. Max Muncy grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Blake Treinen relieved Glasnow and picked up where Glasnow left off. He struck out two on six pitches. He battled the last batter of the inning until he flied out.
In the ninth, the Dodgers did nothing offensively.
