Before the game, the Los Angeles Dodgers honored 40 old Dodgers and put ex-Dodger owner Walter O’Malley in their Ring of Honor. Gavin Lux drove in three runs, and Teoscar Hernández homered. An injury to River Ryan overshadowed his brilliant performance, and five relievers didn’t allow a run. On a hot Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-to-1.

River Ryan perhaps was making his last start in the major leagues for a while as Walker Buehler prepares to return to the Dodger roster. Ryan, who made an unbelievable defensive play, pitched a perfect inning.

With an out in the first, Teoscar Hernández doubled and scored on Gavin Lux’s double.

To lead off the second, Ryan allowed a single but Lux made a pretty double play. However, Kiké Hernàndez committed an error. Ryan pitched a scoreless inning.

With an out in the third, Ryan allowed a single. He picked off a runner and then allowed two singles. Scorelessly, he escaped from the jam.

Nick Ahmed singled to lead off the third. Teoscar Hernández had an infield single. Lux singled in both runners.

In the fourth, Ryan hurled a perfect inning thanks to Kevin Kiermaier’s brilliant center field play.

With two outs in the fifth, Ryan felt something in his precious right elbow. Immediately, Dave Roberts took him out.

Alex Vesia relieved Ryan and allowed a double. Vesia retired the last batter of the inning.

Teoscar Hernández blasted an opposite-field shot in the fifth.

Vesia and Evan Phillips hurled a scoreless inning.

The Dodgers announced that Ryan has right forearm tightness.

Michael Grove allowed a single with an out in the seventh.

Michael Kopech relieved Grove with two outs in the seventh and pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

Daniel Hudson pitched a scoreless ninth.
