Shohei Ohtani underwent shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. He injured his shoulder during Game 2 of the World Series while attempting to steal second base.

Though Ohtani played throughout the World Series, he was visibly in pain and didn’t perform well. He accomplished one of his childhood goals when the Dodgers won a world championship.

The Dodgers expect Ohtani to be ready for spring training. In 2025, the Dodgers expect Ohtani to resume his dual pitching and hitting duties. In the 2024 season, Ohtani became the first 50-50 player in Major League Baseball history. If Ohtani cannot resume his incredible pitching career after his second Tommy John surgery during his major league career, he might play in the outfield.

The Dodgers will want Ohtani to come close to his 2024 offensive statistics of a .310 batting average, 54 home runs, 130 RBI, and 59 stolen bases. Ohtani probably wouldn’t steal as many bases as he did in the 2024 season.

Since Ohtani had left shoulder surgery, he might lose some of his awesome power. However, he can regain it in the 2026 season and beyond.

Since 1977, I have been an avid Dodger fan. In high school, I became my school's baseball statistician and vowed to have a career in baseball. After I graduated from Pasadena City College, I started writing about my favorite team. In August 2001, I was featured in Her Blue Haven by Bill Plaschke. I was a freelance writer for Major League Baseball Advanced Media from 2001 to 2018. This website provides you a professional outlook on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
