On a picturesque Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers pounded the Athletics 9-to-3. Yoshinobu Yamamoto had a quality start. Shohei Ohtani, Hyeseong Kim, and Max Muncy homered. Mookie Betts had an important double. Miguel Rojas came off the bench to break the tie in the seventh.
Blake Snell can resume a throwing program. After making two starts, Snell, with left shoulder inflammation, was placed on the IL. It has taken longer than expected, but Dr. Neal ElAttrache finally cleared him to start a throwing program. Barring a setback, Snell should be able to be back in the middle of June.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was coming off his toughest start in the 2025 season. He was perfect in the first.
Shohei Ohtani sent another ball to the moon for a lead-off home run. With two outs, Will Smith walked but didn’t go anywhere.
To open the second, Yamamoto allowed a single and a stolen base but didn’t give up a run.
Andy Pages sent the ball to outer space for a solo home run to start the second. With two outs, Hyeseong Kim had an infield single but didn’t go anywhere.
To begin the third, Yamamoto allowed a double and a two-run homer to tie the game. He didn’t allow anything else.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the third.
Yamamoto issued a walk to begin the fourth. He allowed a run-scoring double. Thanks to a fabulous defensive play by Kim, Yamamoto didn’t give up another run in the fourth.
With an out in the fourth, Pages singled but couldn’t go anywhere.
Yamamoto was brilliant in the fifth.
Kim blasted his first major league home run in the fifth to tie the game. With two outs, Freddie Freeman singled Smith walked. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.
Yamamoto walked the lead-off batter in the sixth but retired the next three batters, including a marvelous defensive play by Mookie Betts and Max Muncy.
Pages began the sixth with a walk, and Michael Conforto singled. However, Pages made an out at third. Miguel Rojas, pinch-hitting for Kim, singled in Conforto. Ohtani had an infield single, moving Rojas to second. The Dodgers didn’t score any more.
Alex Vesia relieved Yamamoto in the seventh with a perfect frame.
Smith walked with an out in the seventh, and Pages singled him to second. The Dodgers stranded Smith and Pages.
Kirby Yates relieved Vesia in the eighth, and with an out, he allowed a double. Yates forced the Athletics to leave the tying run at third.
Kiké Hernández opened the eighth with a single. Rojas sacrificed Kiké Hernández to second. Ohtani was intentionally walked. Betts doubled in Kiké Hernández and Ohtani. Freeman walked. Muncy sent the ball to Mars for a three-run homer.
Ben Casparius relieved Yates in the ninth with a perfect inning.
