The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their struggles as they opened their last series in Oakland. Teoscar Hernàndez blasted a two-run homer, and Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run homer in the ninth. Gavin Stone didn’t get out of the fifth, but the bullpen looked better. With their 6-to-5 loss to the Oakland Athletics, the Dodgers are only 4.5 games in front of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres.
Again, Freddie Freeman missed the game, and Dave Roberts doesn’t expect him back with the team until Monday.
With two outs in the first, Gavin Lux singled, and Teoscar Hernandez blasted an opposite-field two-run homer.
Gavin Stone allowed two singles with an out in the first. Stone worked out of the jam without allowing a run.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the second inning.
Stone faced the minimum in the second inning.
Stone got out of the jam scorelessly in the third.
The Dodgers saw only five pitches in the fourth.
In the fourth, Stone allowed a solo home run to lead off. Stone didn’t get out of the fifth and allowed five runs. Joe Kelly allowed a home run.
In the sixth, Evan Phillips allowed a single but struck out the side.
To open the seventh, Ahmed Rosario doubled. Kiké Hernàndez walked. Andy Pages struck out. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. James Outman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shohei Ohtani grounded out to end the scoring threat.
Daniel Hudson relieved Phillips in the seventh. He breezed through the seventh.
With two outs in the eighth, Teoscar Hernàndez singled but didn’t score.
Anthony Banda relieved Hudson in the eighth and allowed an infield single. He pitched a scoreless inning.
With an out in the ninth, Kiké Hernàndez singled and Outman walked. Ohtani blasted a three-run homer. Will Smith grounded out to end the game.
