On a windy Thursday afternoon at Talking Stick, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Colorado Rockies 2-to-0.

Freddie Freeman made his Cactus League debut with a loud single. Twelve weeks after he had ankle surgery, he showed he can still hit.

Coming off the most difficult season of his major league career, Freeman has newfound fame after earning the World Series MVP. At 35, he wants to continue his Hall-of-Fame-caliber career with consistency. In the 2024 season, Freeman missed an unusual 15 games with a broken finger, a sick three-year-old son Max who has fully recovered, and a severely sprained ankle.

From most major leaguers’ standards, Freeman had a good 2024 season, but he was disappointed in his results. He had a .282 batting average, 22 home runs, and 89 RBI.

Without Freeman, the Dodgers wouldn’t have won their eighth world championship. He has the most important walk-off grand slam in franchise history. Dating back to the 2021 World Series, Freeman blasted six homers in six consecutive World Series games.

Freeman went 1-for-3.

Landon Knack was great for 1.2 innings, and Jared Karros pitched well in the fourth inning.

Kirby Yates allowed two doubles and a walk good for a run in the fifth. He pitched only 0.2 innings.

Blake Treinen pitched well in the sixth even though he allowed a single.

Tanner Scott allowed a single to Kyle Karros to lead off the seventh and a double good for a run. Scott walked another batter.

Anthony Banda hurled a fantastic eighth.
