Five Relievers Were Almost Perfect As They Led the Dodgers To Victory

For the last time ever, the Los Angeles Dodgers played in Oakland. The Dodgers led throughout the game. River Ryan perhaps had his worst outing in the major leagues, but he was effective for 4.2 innings. Evan Phillips, Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia, Daniel Hudson, and Anthony Banda were fantastic. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Oakland Coliseum, the Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the Oakland Athletics 3-to-2.

With an out in the first, Teoscar Hernàndez doubled, and Gavin Lux walked. Kiké Hernàndez doubled in T. Hernàndez and Lux. Cavan Biggio walked. The Dodgers didn’t score anymore.

River Ryan allowed a broken bat single with two outs in the first and then, a two-run homer. He gave up a walk but got out of the first without allowing another run.

In the second with an out, Austin Barnes walked but didn’t advance.

Despite allowing a walk and a stolen base, Ryan pitched a scoreless second.

With an out in the third, Jason Heyward doubled and scored on Biggio’s single.

To start the third, Ryan allowed a single. He pitched a scoreless inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.

Ryan used 12 pitches to face the minimum in the fourth.

Lux singled, but the Dodgers didn’t score.

Ryan allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases in the fifth. Dave Roberts relieved Ryan with two outs in the inning with Evan Phillips. Phillips struck out the last batter of the fifth.

In the sixth, Kiké Hernàndez doubled but didn’t score.

Blake Treinen relieved Phillips in the sixth. With two outs, Kevin Kiermaier lost a fly ball in the sun. Treinen hurled a scoreless inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the seventh.

Alex Vesia relieved Treinen in the seventh with a perfect inning.

Though Heyward doubled, the Dodgers didn’t score in the eighth.

Daniel Hudson relieved Vesia in the eighth with a perfect inning.

Kevin Kiermaier walked to open the ninth but didn’t advance.

Anthony Banda relieved Hudson in the ninth with a perfect inning.
