Eight Pitchers And 2 Homers Equal an Important Dodger Win

On an overcast Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San  Diego Padres 5-to2 to win the series. The Dodgers used eight pitchers who hurled well. Michael Conforto and Teoscar Hernández hit important home runs. Freddie Freeman drove in the fifth run. the Dodgers will be atop of the Western Division when they start a 10-game home stand on Friday.

The Dodgers went down in order in the first.

Ben Casparius was perfect in the first and threw only 10 pitches.

With two outs in the second, Max Muncy walked, and Andy Pages singled Muncy to third. Michael Conforto flied out to end the inning.

With an out in the second, Casparius allowed two singles. Pages threw out a player at the plate. Casparius issued a walk to load the bases. He issued another walk that scored a run. he got out of the jam.

The pitch hit Hyeseong Kim to start the third, and Kim was stranded.

Casparius was perfect in the third.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.

Casparius faced the minimum in the fourth.

With an out in the fifth, Michael Conforto blasted a solo home run. The Dodgers didn’t score any more.

Lou Trivino relieved Casparius in the fifth with a perfect inning.

With an out in the sixth, Freddie Freeman had an infield single, and Will Smith walked. Teoscar Hernández blasted a three-run homer. Muncy singled, and Pages hit into a force play to erase Muncy. The Dodgers didn’t score any more.

Jack Dreyer relieved Trivino in the sixth and issued a walk to start the inning. Kim had a major throwing error, allowing Manny Machado to reach second. A single moved Machado to third. A sacrifice fly scored Machado.

Kirby Yates relieved Dreyer with two outs in the sixth and retired the last out of the inning.

With two outs in the seventh, Mookie Betts singled but was stranded.

Michael Kopech relieved Yates in the seventh but issued two walks with an out. Another walk loaded the bases.

With an out in the seventh, Anthony Banda relieved Kopech and escaped from the jam scorelessly thanks to a spectacular play by Betts.

Will Smith opened the eighth with a single, and Muncy singled Smith to second. The Dodgers wasted a scoring opportunity.

Tanner Scott relieved Banda in the eighth with a brilliant inning.

With an out in the ninth, Shohei Ohtani tripled, and Freddie Freeman walked with two outs. Smith singled in Ohtani and moved gimpy Freeman to second. The Dodgers didn’t score any more.

Alex Vesia relieved Scott in the ninth and struck out the side to earn the save.
