The Los Angeles Dodgers used a solo home run by Freddie Freeman and a grand slam by Teoscar Hernández and great pitching from James Paxton, Gus Varland, Ryan Yarbrough, and J.P. Feyereisen to beat the San Diego Padres 5-to-0. Petco  Park had its largest crowd in its history on an overcast Saturday evening.

Freddie Freeman hit a solo home run in the first. While he doubled in the third, the Dodgers stranded him.

James Paxton continued his dominance from his last start against the Atlanta Braves. For the first time as a Dodger, he had both of his breaking balls working. He baffled the Padres.

In the sixth, Teoscar Hernández unloaded to hit a grand slam.

Big Maple allowed a single in the sixth but nothing else.

Gus Varland relieved Paxton in the seventh and hurled a perfect inning.

Andy Pages singled in the eighth, stole his first major league base, but was stranded.

Ryan Yarbrough allowed two single in the eighth but didn’t let the Padres score thanks to quick reflexes of Max Muncy at third.

J.P.  Feyereisen hurled a scoreless ninth.
