Dodgers Triumph in 2025 Opening Day Against Tigers

On a cool Thursday evening at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Detroit Tigers 5-to-4. For the first time since 2016, the Dodgers started 3 victories and no losses. Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernández, and Shohei Ohtani homered. Blake Snell was shaky. Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott allowed runs in relief.

Kiké Hernández was scratched from the Opening Day lineup because of stomach flu-like symptoms.

In his first inning as a Dodger, Blake Snell was perfect.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first.

To open the second, Snell issued a walk and allowed a single moving the runner to third. The Tigers made a base-running mistake. Snell escaped the jam scorelessly.

With one out in the second, Tommy Edman blasted a solo home run.

Snell walked a batter but didn’t allow anything else in the third.

With two outs in the third, Shohei Ohtani singled and moved to third on Mookie Betts’ single. Teoscar Hernández struck out to end the scoring opportunity.

Snell issued a walk to start the fourth. He allowed a single. He walked the bases loaded. A run scored on a wild pitch. Snell finished the inning.

With two outs in the fourth, Will Smith singled, but the Dodgers didn’t do anything else.

With one out in the fifth, Snell allowed a single. He allowed another single moving the runner to third. On a sacrifice fly, the Tigers scored a run.

With one out in the fifth, Andy Pages singled but was erased on a force play by Ohtani. Mookie Betts walked. Teoscar Hernández socked a three-run homer.

Ben Casparius walked the lead-off batter in the sixth. He allowed a single. He got out of the jam scorelessly.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.

Alex Vesia allowed a solo home run in the seventh.

Ohtani homered with two outs in the seventh.

Tanner Scott allowed a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

In the eighth, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.

Blake Treinen allowed a single to start the ninth and a walk but closed out the victory.
