On a beautiful Saturday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Detroit Tigers 7-to-3. Roki Sasaki couldn’t find the strike zone, so he didn’t even last two innings. The bullpen was superb. Freddie Freeman, Tommy Edman, and Will Smith homered, and Teoscar Hernández had a crucial 2-run double.
Saturday Nancy Bea Hefley passed away at 89. From 1988 to 2015, she was the Dodger organist. She endeared herself to the fans in several ways. However, when I fell in love with her, she played Master of the House whenever Orel Hershiser pitched.
After two games, Dave Roberts decided to rest Mookie Betts. After all, he is just recovering from the stomach flu where he lost 20 pounds.
Roki Sasaki allowed a lead-off single and a single with an out. He issued a walk to load the bases. He allowed a run-scoring infield single. He walked in a run.
With two outs in the first, Freddie Freeman socked his second home run of the year.
Sasaki continued pitching in the second. He walked the lead-off batter. He walked a batter with two outs. Dave Roberts lifted Sasaki with two outs in the second for Jack Dreyer.
Dreyer struck out the last batter of the second.
With an out in the second, Andy Pages singled and scored on Michael Conforto’s double.
Dreyer continues pitching in the third with a perfect frame.
In the third, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.
Ben Casparius relieved Dreyer in the fourth and was perfect.
The Dodgers went down in order in the fourth.
Anthony Banda relieved Casparius in the fifth and was perfect.
To start the fifth, Conforto walked and advanced to second on Tommy Edman’s ground out. Miguel Rojas’ grounder advanced Conforto to third. Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked. Teoscar Hernández doubled in Conforto and Ohtani.
Luis Garcia relieved Banda in the sixth and was perfect.
Will Smith hit a solo home run to open the sixth.
Garcia continued pitching in the seventh and allowed a lead-off triple. A run scored on an infield single. He ended the inning with a double play.
Tommy Edman started the seventh with a solo home run. Ohtani walked and stole second. Freeman doubled in Ohtani.
Kirby Yates relieved Garcia in the eighth and struck out the side.
Blake Treinen relieved Yates in the ninth and allowed a lead-off single to Manny Margot. He saved his second victory of the year.
