Neither Freddie Freeman nor Miguel Rojas could answer the bell, and the Los Angeles Dodgers were forced to have a bullpen game while facing elimination. The Dodgers said, “No big deal!”
The Dodgers answered every question. Mookie Betts, Gavin Lux, and Will Smith homered. The Dodgers even played small ball to score. Every reliever was brilliant. The Los Angeles Dodgers smashed the San Diego Padres 8-to-0.
With an out in the first, Mookie Betts homered. Teoscar Hernández singled. The Dodgers didn’t score any more runs.
Ryan Brasier opened for the Dodgers with a perfect frame.
Gavin Lux walked in the second with an out. Kiké Hernández singled moving Lux to third. Shohei Ohtani singled in Lux and moved Hernández to third. Betts singled in Hernández and moved Ohtani to second.
Brasier continued pitching in the second and retired Manny Machado.
Anthony Banda relieved Brasier in the second, and with two outs, Banda issued a walk. He allowed a single moving the runner to third. He wiggled out of the jam scorelessly.
Max Muncy doubled to open the third. Will Smith blasted a two-run homer.
Michael Kopech relieved Banda in the third. With two outs, Kopech allowed a double to Fernando Tatis, Jr. but was stranded.
Shohei Ohtani walked with an out in the fourth. On Betts’ fly ball, Ohtani took second. Teoscar Hernández had an infield single, but Ohtani was thrown out trying to score.
Alex Vesia relieved Kopech in the fourth with a perfect frame.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fifth.
Vesia continued pitching in the fifth. David Peralta opened the fifth with a single. Vesia walked a batter.
With two outs in the fifth, Evan Phillips relieved Vesia. Phillips retired Tatis to finish the inning.
Lux began the sixth with a single. Ohtani walked. The Dodgers stranded everyone.
Phillips used five pitches to hurl a perfect sixth inning.
With an out in the seventh, Muncy was plunked by a pitch. Smith reached on an error, and Muncy went to third. Tommy Edman bunted scoring Muncy. Lux blasted a two-run homer. Kiké Hernández singled. While Hernández advanced to second on a wild pitch, the Dodgers stranded him.
Daniel Hudson relieved Phillips in the seventh. With two outs, Hudson allowed a triple but didn’t allow a run.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the eighth.
Blake Treinen relieved Hudson in the eighth. He allowed two singles. Treinen got out of the jam scorelessly.
With two outs in the ninth, Tommy Edman singled but was left.
Landon Knack relieved Treinen in the ninth. He allowed an infield single. He didn’t allow a run.
