Wednesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers traded for Cavan Biggio, the son of the Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, from the Toronto Blue Jays for cash and minor league reliever Braydon Fisher, a 2018 draft pick who didn’t figure out in the Dodgers’ future.

Since Max Muncy can’t swing a bat yet with his right oblique injury, the Dodgers need a third baseman. Muncy will miss at least another month. Biggio struggles with his offense, but he is a superior glove anywhere, primarily on the infield. He couldn’t live up to the lofty expectations of the Blue Jays because of his famous last name. Before the Blue Jays designated Biggio for assignment,  he was hitting .200 with 2 home runs, 9 RBI, and .614 OPS.

The Dodgers have many light-hitting utility infielders who can play the outfield. However, the 29-year-old Biggio allows the Dodgers to send down Miguel Vargas, who needs regular at-bats than he’s getting with the Dodgers. This deal should be a short-term deal unless Biggio improves his offense
