Despite a Poor Start by Knack, the Dodgers Earned a Win

On a cool but sunny Wednesday afternoon at Nationals Park, the Dodgers salvaged a victory despite a poor start by Landon Knack. The Dodgers scored four runs in the first, including a two-run homer by Teoscar Hernández. Landon Knack struggled for 2.1 innings allowing five runs. The bullpen only gave up one hit over 6.2 innings. Andy Pages had a solo home run, and Teoscar Hernández singled in the winning run. The defense was superb in the Dodgers’ 6-to-5 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Shohei Ohtani started the game with a single, and Mookie Betts walked. Tommy Edman tripled in both Ohtani and Betts. Teoscar Hernández blasted a two-run homer. The Dodgers didn’t do anything else.

Landon Knack allowed a solo home run to start the first inning. He issued a walk. He gave up a single. He walked the bases loaded without any outs. A run scored on a ground ball. A sacrifice fly to center scored another run. He allowed another walk. Betts made a fantastic play from shortstop to end the inning.

With two outs in the second, Ohtani walked but didn’t advance.

Knack continued pitching in the second inning with a perfect frame.

To start the third, Edman singled. The Dodgers didn’t score.

With an out in the third, Knack issued a walk and allowed a single. He gave up a game-tying double.

Dave Roberts lifted Knack after 2.1 innings for Jack Dreyer. Dreyer allowed a sacrifice fly. He retired the last batter of the inning.

With one out in the fourth, Kiké Hernández walked. The Dodgers didn’t do anything else.

Despite a walk, Dreyer pitched a scoreless inning.

In the fifth, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.

Anthony Banda relieved Dreyer in the fifth with a perfect inning.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the sixth.

Kirby Yates relieved Banda in the sixth with a perfect inning.

Andy Pages socked a solo home run in the seventh with an out. Ohtani had an infield single and stole second. On Betts’ grounder, Ohtani went to third, and Edman walked. Teoscar Hernández singled in Ohtani. The Dodgers didn’t do anything else.

Tanner Scott relieved Yates in the seventh and was perfect.

The Dodgers went 1-2-3 in the eighth.

Alex Vesia relieved Scott in the eighth, and with one out, he issued a walk. The Dodgers caught the runner trying to steal second base.

With two outs in the ninth, Betts singled, and Edman was plunked by a pitch. The Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.

Blake Treinen relieved Vesia in the ninth and allowed a single with an out. A wild pitch moved the runner to second. Treinen walked a speedy batter. Kiké Hernández made a fantastic play to preserve the lead. The runner moved to second, but Treinen saved the win.
