Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch Lead Chicago Cubs to Victory Over Los Angeles Dodgers

On a hot Monday night at Dodger Stadium, Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch killed their former team. Walker Buehler hurled poorly, so did Nick Ramirez. Shohei Ohtani had two hits and a stolen base. Mookie Betts had a run-producing single and a two-run homer. The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Chicago Cubs 10-to-4.

Cody Bellinger socked a two-run homer against Walker Buehler with two outs in the first. Buehler allowed a double and a run-scoring single. Buehler threw 26 pitches to get through the first inning.

Despite Freddie Freeman’s two-out single, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the first.

Buehler allowed a bunt single to begin the second but was erased by a double play, which was a fantastic defensive play by Gavin Lux. He got out of the second inning scorelessly.

In the third, despite allowing a single, Buehler breezed through the inning.

With two outs in the third, Shohei Ohtani walked and stole his 47th base of the year. Mookie Betts walked. Freeman walked to load the bases, but Max Muncy lined out to end the scoring threat.

Buehler allowed a solo home run to Michael Busch, a former Dodger, with an out in the fourth. Then, he allowed a single. He got out of the inning without allowing any more runs.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the fourth.

Buehler pitched well in the fifth.

With one out in the fifth, Chris Taylor had an infield single. Ohtani singled him to third, and Betts singled in Taylor and moved Ohtani to third. Freeman walked to load the bases. Muncy had a sacrifice fly scoring Ohtani.

Buehler walked the lead-off batter in the sixth and a single.

Dave Roberts relieved Buehler with Anthony Banda who gave up a run-scoring single to Busch. He gave up another single. The ninth hitter singled in two runs.

Tommy Edman singled to start the sixth.  Lx singled moving Edman to second. Miguel Rojas grounded into a double play. The Dodgers didn’t score.

Michael Grove relieved Banda in the seventh with a perfect frame.

To start the seventh, Ohtani singled but reached second on Bellinger’s error. Betts socked a two-run homer. Freeman walked. Edman singled moving Freeman to third. The Dodgers stranded Freeman and Edman.

Nick Ramirez relieved Grove in the eighth. With an out, Ramirez allowed a double to Busch, his fourth hit of the game. He gave up another single moving Busch to third. He allowed a sacrifice fly. He didn’t allow any more runs.

Rojas singled to begin the eighth, but the Dodgers couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity.

Ramirez continued pitching in the ninth. He gave up a single and an infield single. He uncorked a wild pitch moving the runners up. Bellinger singled in a run. Ramirez allowed a sacrifice fly.
