On a beautiful Saturday evening at Dodger Stadium, Walker Buehler dominated six innings. Freddie Freeman had a big impact. Andy Pages singled in the first run. The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-to-0.
For the first time this season, Mookie Betts is an off day. He is frustrated with defense at shortstop while he has been working hard on defense. He has made six errors, but he has been a solid shortstop.
In Betts’ absence, Shohei Ohtani would be a leadoff hitter.
Walker Buehler was dominant in the first two innings. He allowed a runner in the third, but he didn’t allow anything else. For the first time since returning from his second Tommy John surgery, Buehler had exquisite command.
In the third, Kike Hernandez walked but was left.
Buehler continued his dominance in the fourth.
In the fourth, both Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez walked. Andy Pages singled in Freeman, and Gavin Lux’s grounder scored Hernandez.
Buehler was efficient, and the first time this season, he went into the fifth. An error put a runner on third. Buehler pitched around the outfield miscommunication.
To open the fifth, Miguel Rojas doubled and scored on Freeman’s single.
Buehler went into the sixth but allowed a single. He finished six innings and had no walks and seven strikeouts.
Michael Grove relieved Buehler and pitched a perfect seventh.
Daniel Hudson pitched a perfect eighth.
Freeman opened the eighth with a double and scored on Teoscar Hernández’s single.
J.P. Feyereisen pitched a scoreless ninth
