Buehler And the Defense Weren’t Good

The second comeback of Walker Buehler wasn’t triumphant. The Dodgers made three errors. The Dodgers scored three runs in the first. The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 5-to-4, snapping their five-game winning streak.

Shohei Ohtani reached first on an error to open the first, and Mookie Betts singled moving Ohtani to second. Freddie Freeman singled to load the bases. Teoscar Hernández walked to drive in a run and keep the bases loaded. Gavin Lux struck out. Kiké Hernàndez had a sacrifice fly to drive in Betts. Kevin Kiermaier doubled in Freeman.

Making his first major league start since June 18th against the Colorado Rockies, Walker Buehler walked the first batter to face him. He walked another batter. After Clayton Kershaw has performed well after his first major surgery, Dodger fans have high expectations for Buehler who isn’t a future Hall of Famer. Buehler walked the bases loaded. Kevin Kiermaier had a double play that helped to bail Buehler out of an impossible jam. Buehler struck out the last batter of the inning.

With an out in the second inning, Ohtani walked and stole second and third but was stranded.

To open the second, Buehler allowed a solo home run. With an out, Nick Ahmed made an error. Freeman made a fantastic defensive play. Buehler allowed an RBI double and a run-scoring single to tie the score. He couldn’t land his curveball for strikes, and his breaking pitches weren’t sharp.

With an out in the third, Lux walked.

In the third, Buehler had an easy inning.

After allowing the go-ahead run with an out in the fourth, Buehler was lifted by Roberts. Anthony Banda came in and the Dodgers got an out on an appeal. Banda retired the last out.

Freeman singled with an out in the fifth, and Lux doubled him to third. The Dodgers stranded the runners.

With one out in the fifth, Brent Honeywell relieved Banda and retired the last two batters.

Kiermaier led off the sixth with a single but was caught stealing. The Dodgers didn’t score.

Honeywell pitched a perfect sixth inning.

With an out in the seventh, Betts singled, and Freeman singled him to third. Miguel Rojas, coming off the bench to hit for Lux, singled in Betts to tie the score  

Honeywell hit a batter and was sacrificed to second.

With an out in the seventh, Evan Phillips relieved Honeywell. Phillips allowed a single, but Betts booted it allowing the go-ahead run to score.

The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the eighth.

Michael Grove pitched a perfect eighth inning.
