Evan Phillips had a good 2024 season even though he missed time with an injury and lost his closing job. He couldn’t pitch in the World Series because of a fatigued right shoulder. In the 2025 season, Phillips figures to play a crucial role in the Dodger bullpen unless he suffers a major injury.

With Brusdar Graterol missing the first half of the 2025 season after having surgery for a right torn labrum, the Los Angeles Dodgers will rely upon Phillips more. Phillips is a fireman, but he doesn’t have a blazing fastball. He relies on a hard cutter and a good slider with a mid-90s fastball. Usually, he has superb control, but around the All-Star break, he lost feeling for the strike zone.

Phillips hurled in 61 games but pitched in 54.2 innings. He had 5 wins, no losses, 18 saves, and a 3. 62 ERA. In the postseason, Phillips was brilliant, and the Dodgers missed him during the World Series because he injured his shoulder in the last game in the NLCS against the New York Mets.

If the Dodgers don’t re-sign Blake Treinen, they will rely upon Phillips more than ever. How serious was Phillips’ shoulder injury? The Dodgers have bullpen questions entering spring training of 2025.
