An Old Friend Beat the Dodgers

After a 15-run outburst Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t do anything offensively. Shohei Ohtani hit a home run. Despite allowing a three-run homer to his old friend, Corey Seager, Walker Buehler pitched well with traffic. While the Dodgers scored a run in the ninth, they lost to the Texas Rangers 3-to2 on a warm Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Before the game, the Dodgers demoted Miguel Vargas to Oklahoma City when they activated Cavan Biggio. Vargas needed everyday play to continue improving. As Dave Roberts said, Vargas is a major leaguer. If the Dodgers had a healthy Max Muncy, it is doubtful they would have acquired Biggio.

Walker Buehler allowed the leadoff batter to reach and walked Corey Seager.  Biggio started a double play. Buehler got out of the jam.

With an out in the first, Shohei Ohtani blasted his seventeenth home run. Freddie Freeman singled but didn’t score.

In the second inning, Buehler allowed an infield single but didn’t allow any runs. He was using a sinker.

Andy Pages singled with an out in the second inning and didn’t score.

Buehler had a perfect third inning.

Mookie Betts opened the third with a single, and Freeman walked. the Dodgers didn’t score.

Buehler allowed a single with an out in the fourth. He struck out two to wiggle out of a jam.

In the fourth, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.

In the fifth, Buehler allowed a single and stole second. Biggio committed an error. Seager hit a 3-run homer because Buehler left a fastball in the middle of the plate.

Biggio singled to start the fifth but was erased with a double play by Betts.

Yohan Ramirez allowed a two-out double but got a foul ball to end the sixth inning.

To lead off the sixth, Freeman walked. Freeman was caught stealing.

Blake Treinen was victimized by an error by Teoscar Hernandez in left field, but Treinen quickly retired the last out in the seventh inning.

With two outs in the seventh, Jason Heyward walked. the Dodgers didn’t score.

Daniel Hudson walked a rookie with an out in the eighth and was caught stealing. He pitched a scoreless inning.

The Dodgers went down in order in the eighth.

Anthony Banda pitched a perfect ninth.

Will Smith opened the ninth with a single,  Pages walked, and Heyward doubled. Pages ran through a stop sign and was out at the plate
