On a cool Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the Philadelphia Phillies 3-to-1. For the first time in his major league career, Roki Sasaki pitched well in four innings. Kiké Hernández and Michael Conforto homered. Max Muncy had three hits. Ben Casparius, Alex Vesia, and Tanner Scott were brilliant.
With an out in the first, Mookie Betts singled. Teoscar Hernández hit into a force play erasing Betts. The Dodgers didn’t do anything.
Roki Sasaki allowed two singles to begin the game. Trae Turner stole second. On a ground ball, Sasaki allowed a run but nothing else.
With an out in the second, Max Muncy doubled. Kiké Hernández blasted a two-run homer.
Sasaki retired the Phillies in order in the second.
Shohei Ohtani walked to open the third, and Betts singled him to second. Teoscar Hernández hit into a double play, but Ohtani went to third. The Dodgers wasted a scoring opportunity.
Sasaki was perfect in the third.
With an out in the fourth, Muncy singled. The Dodgers couldn’t do anything more than Muncy’s single.
To open the fourth, Sasaki walked Bryce Harper but didn’t allow anything else.
The Dodgers went down in order in the fifth.
Sasaki opened the fifth with a walk and single.
Dave Roberts relieved Sasaki with Anthony Banda. Teoscar Hernández started an important double play to keep the Dodgers in front.
Michael Conforto hit a solo home run with an out in the sixth. Muncy singled, but the Dodgers didn’t do anything else.
Ben Casparius relieved Banda in the sixth. Muncy made a fantastic defensive play. Casparius was perfect.
The Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively in the seventh.
Casparius continued pitching in the seventh with a perfect frame.
In the eighth, the Dodgers didn’t do anything offensively.
Alex Vesia relieved Casparius in the eighth. With two outs in the eighth, Vesia plunked a batter, but he struck out three batters.
With two outs in the ninth, Andy Pages walked. Kiké Hernández flied out to end the inning.
Tanner Scott relieved Vesia in the ninth and allowed an infield single and then coaxed the double play. Scott on three pitches earned the save.
