On a picturesque Monday night at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-to-5. The Dodgers didn’t have good pitching while their offense produced. Mookie Betts had two home runs, and Shohei Ohtani hit his team-leading sixteenth home run. The Dodgers scored two runs in the ninth. They lead the San Diego Padres by a half game in the National League Western Division.
The injured Dodgers’ pitching staff made Dave Roberts stay with Jack Dreyer and Landon Knack too long. At the end of the third, the Dodgers trailed by 7 runs. A misplayed fly ball by Hyeseong Kim and a throwing error by Max Muncy undermined the effort.
For the first time since 2018, the Dodgers have a 4-game losing streak at Dodger Stadium. The pitching injuries undermined the Dodgers’ effort. They don’t have the staff that Andrew Friedman envisioned when spring training began.
On Monday, Teoscar Hernández returned from the IL and affected the final score positively. On Sunday, Tommy Edman returned, and on Monday, he singled in the fifth run.
The Dodgers are trying to hold on until some injured pitchers return. They have an entire All-Star starting rotation and All-Star bullpen on the IL. Only a few teams can survive the same pitching injuries that the Dodgers have. Luckily, one of those teams is the Dodgers because Andrew Friedman had the foresight.
